Giving an app access to your store is a matter of trust, so here is a plain description of what Vast Product Image Exporter can see, what it keeps, and for how long. If you have a privacy or security question that is not answered below, contact support and we will answer it.
What the app can access in Shopify
When you install the app, Shopify asks you to approve two permissions:
| Permission | Why the app needs it |
|---|---|
| Read products | To list your products, collections, vendors, types, and tags for the filters, and to download product images for your exports. |
| Manage its own subscription | To set up and cancel the Unlimited plan through Shopify Billing. |
That is all. The app does not ask for, and cannot read, your orders, customers, discounts, inventory levels, or any other part of your store.
Because the app never reads customer data, it has nothing to hand over when Shopify forwards a customer data request, and nothing to delete when a customer asks for erasure. Those requests are acknowledged and no customer information is involved.
What the app stores about your store
The app keeps the minimum it needs to run and to show you your history:
- Your store's myshopify.com domain and store name, so it knows which store an export belongs to and how to name your ZIP files.
- The access credential Shopify issues to the app when you approve the permissions above. This is what lets the app read your products.
- Two email addresses: the store contact email from your Shopify settings, and the email of the staff member who opened the app. The completion email with your download link goes to the staff member's address, falling back to the store email.
- Your language choice, as described in Changing the App Language.
- Your export history, including the filters and settings you chose for each export, its status, image counts, file sizes, and the activity log you see on the export detail page.
- Your plan and usage counter, so the Free plan's 100 images per month can be tracked.
What happens to your images during an export
Your product images are never stored permanently by the app. During an export:
- Each image is fetched from Shopify and copied to secure cloud storage so it can be packaged.
- The finished ZIP file (or files, for large exports) is written to the same storage.
- The image copies and the ZIP files are deleted automatically 7 days after the export. After that the export shows as Expired in your history and cannot be downloaded.
Images are copied exactly as they are; the app does not analyse, edit, or reuse them for anything other than building your ZIP.
Download links
Every download link is signed and expires 24 hours after it is created. Within those 24 hours the link works for anyone who has it, without signing in to Shopify, because that is what lets you open it from your email or pass it to a colleague.
Treat a download link like the file itself. Only share it with people who should have your product images, and do not post it anywhere public. If a link has been shared more widely than you intended, it stops working on its own after 24 hours. You can always create a fresh link from the dashboard for 7 days after the export. See Understanding Export History and Download Links.
Error reporting
When something goes wrong in the app, a technical report is sent to an error tracking service so the problem can be fixed. These reports contain the error itself and context such as which store and export were involved; they never include your images, and access credentials are scrubbed before anything is sent.
When you uninstall
Uninstalling the app triggers Shopify's standard privacy process, and the app removes what it holds for your store. What Happens When You Uninstall the App explains the timing and the details.
